The Meyer Lemon is originally from China and thought to be a cross between a true lemon and a mandarin orange. Introduced to the U.S. in 1908 by the agricultural explorer Frank Meyer. The leaves are dark green and shiny. The flowers are white with a purple base and very fragrant. The fruit is yellow and rounder than a true lemon with a sweeter and less acidic flavor with a fragrant edible skin. The Key Lime aka Mexican Lime is a globose fruit, that is yellow when ripe but usually picked green. It is smaller, seedier, has a higher acidity a stronger aroma and a thinner rind than that of the more common Persian Lime. It is valued for its unique flavor compared to other limes, with the Key Lime usually having a more tart and bitter flavor.
